The outstanding play by his cohort, Minkah Fitzpatrick, overshadowed Ronnie Harrison early in his career despite seeing the field in every game as a freshman, too. While Fitzpatrick’s forte was his playmaking and versatility, Harrison’s physicality and ball skills made him too hard to keep off the field from day one. Now, he will get a chance to show off those traits on an even tougher stage as the Jacksonville Jaguars just selected him with the 93rd pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Ronnie Harrison put up 174 total tackles throughout his three-year career in Tuscaloosa, including seven for a loss and 3.5 sacks. His ability to come up and play in the box as an extra linebacker is sure to attract a lot of attention from his new coaches, but he showed off elite instincts with the ball in the air, as well, to the tune of 17 pass deflections, seven interceptions, a forced fumble, and two defensive touchdowns. At 6’2″, 210 lbs., he has the body of a prototype NFL safety.
Harrison, on tape, was every bit as good as nearly anyone else on the team. Do not be surprised to see him snag a role early in his JAX career and refuse to let it go, even if he’s going to be a part of the league’s best defense from day one.
Stay tuned in to Touchdown Alabama for more on Ronnie Harrison’s fit with his new team and an outlook on his rookie expectations.
