There was a media firestorm set off when word got out that Tua Tagovailoa allegedly said he would have left the University of Alabama if he did not play in the championship game. Tua sat down with CBS 42 to clarify that he felt his words were taken out of context.
“What I meant was, when you feel like you want to kinda quit or give in,” Tagovailoa said. “I think the more you put your head in the ground and keep trying to push through it, that’s when you start to see the better of the end result.”
Tagovailoa also felt like his statement was put in the wrong context in the media.
“I got the wrong end when I seen it on ESPN,” Tagovailoa said. “They most definitely took it out of context, saying if I didn’t play, I would have left or what not.”
He went on to say that it wasn’t really playing time that cause him to think about transferring. It was a part of Alabama’s work out plan.
“I was talking about fourth quarter more so,” Tagovailoa said. “When we were doing the first day of fourth quarter, I wanted to leave. I called my dad and told him I wanted to go to USC.”
The Alabama quartback will look to get this incident behind him now as he enjoys his time back home in Hawaii.
