Alabama Prepares for Big Recruiting Weekend

The Crimson Tide are gearing up for another big recruiting weekend. Several top targets will travel to Tuscaloosa for their official visit. Alabama’s coaching staff was able to work their magic last weekend and gain a commitment from 4-Star Safety, Demarcco Hellams, during his official visit. Will the Tide be as lucky this weekend?

There are a few storylines to pay attention to. Here a couple to keep an eye on:

Nakobe Dean

Dean is a 5-Star linebacker out of Horn Lake, Mississippi. His visit will start on Friday and conclude on Sunday. Dean has visited Tuscaloosa more times than he can remember. He has a great relationship with Alabama’s coaching staff. He told me that his relationship with Alabama’s new staff is better than the one he had with the old staff.  Landing Dean would be a huge addition to Alabama’s already loaded 2019 recruiting class.

John Metchie

Metchie visit will also go from Friday to Sunday. He is really interested in the Tide. He has a great relationship with Alabama’s wide receiver coach, Josh Gattis. Their relationship steams from Gattis’ time at Penn State and it has blossomed into something special in Tuscaloosa. The last time I talk to Metchie, he was setting up his official visit. He expressed things were going great between him and Alabama. He has a great relationship with Alabama’s offensive coordinator, Mike Locksley, as well. The Tide would love to come close to or even grab a verbal commitment from him this weekend.

Daxton Hill

Hill is returning to Tuscaloosa for the first time since A-Day.  Alabama is in a good position to land Hill as of now, but they are going to have to battle it out with some top notch teams to pull him in. He released a top 5 in April, which included the Tide, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Michigan, Clemson and Ohio State. Hill has not provided a favorite, but it is believed that he will make a decision this Summer.  He does plan on taking a visit to each school before making his decision, which gives Alabama chance to lay out the red carpet. Hill has only visited Oklahoma State since making his top 5 announcement, but the Tide could get lucky and impressed Hill just enough to gain his verbal commitment. Something to pay attention to is Hill’s brother, Justice Hill, is actually a running back for Oklahoma State. This one is going to basically come down to whatever program makes Hill feel the most at home.

DeMarvin Leal

Leal has been committed to Texas A&M since April but has not shut down his recruitment. Saban has been known to flip a guy or two and with Leal cracking the door open just a smidge by taking an official visit to Tuscaloosa, Saban could flip this huge Target. Leal is a 4-Star defensive end out of Converse, Texas. He could come in make Alabama’s 2019 recruiting class that much better.
