The Tide has been known to flip a commit or two and the 2019 recruiting cycle looks to be no different.
The Tide biggest flips in the 2018 class were Skyler Delong from Tennessee, Josh Jobe from Miami and Layne Hatcher from Arkansas State. Ale Kaho could be considered a late flip but he is more of a transfer when you considered he did sign a National Letter of Intent to Washington. The Tide now have a chance to make some big flips in the future as the landscape of college football has opened up opportunities. Here are some 2019 recruits to pay attention to as Alabama would love to flip them.
George Pickens
Pickens has been committed to Auburn for a little over a year. The Tide offered him in May and it looked like it would be an uphill battle for the Tide to get him out of Auburn’s grip. There now seems to be a slit of light at the end of the tunnel for the Tide as Pickens plans to travel to Tuscaloosa this weekend for the Tide’s matchup against Texas A&M.
Pickens is a lengthy prospect at 6-feet-3-inches and 190 pounds. He is one of those guys that believes he can catch any ball that comes his way. As he often tells his QB, Robby Ashford, “to just put it out there.”
Akeem Dent
Dent is a Florida State commit. He has been committed to the Seminoles for more than a year. The Tide seems to be a name that constantly comes up with Dent’s recruitment and it seems speculation has heated up since Daxton Hill committed to Michigan and Florida State does not look promising on the football field.
Dent is a 5-Star cornerback. It does not get any better than this guy as he combines toughness, speed and athleticism to be one of the top recruits in the nation. In the world of lengthy defensive backs, he is a bit of an old-school type at 5-feet-11-inches. Don’t let that size fool you as he can lower the boom with the best of them.
Daxton Hill
Hill committed to Michigan on Tuesday when many felt that Alabama would be the landing spot. He was a huge Alabama target and it not in Alabama’s nature to give up when they were so close.
Hill is the No.1 safety in the nation. This is in large part due to his ability to protect against the deep ball and jump routes with great efficiency.
Nolan Smith
Nolan Smith is a solid Georgia commit and doesn’t look like the Tide can flip him but stranger things have happened.
Smith is a 5-Star defensive end. He thrives off making moves with his hands in route to sacking the quarterback.
Nathan Pickering
Nathan Pickering is a 4-Star defensive tackle. He is committed to Mississippi State.
Alabama’s 2019 recruiting class continues to be one of the top classes in the nation and a few flips could make it stronger. Touchdown Alabama Magazine will keep you updated on all of the Tide’s recruiting moves.
