Jameson Williams Chooses Ohio State Over the Tide

Alabama 4-Star wide receiver target, Jameson Williams, committed to Ohio State over the Tide and several others on Friday.

Yours truly predicted that the Tide did not have a great chance at landing Williams on Thursday. Several factors went into this prediction. The first was the fact that Williams announced Ohio State was his favorite after a visit last Summer and the Tide did not get him back on campus since then. He also visited UCLA recently and canceled a trip to Eugene, Oregon for his official visit.

It maybe hard for Tide fans to understand why any wide receiver would not want to be part of this Alabama passing game, that looks like it is going to be a force to reckon with in the future with Tua Tagovailoa at the helm for at least another season. There is also the fact that Alabama has two outstanding 4-Star quarterbacks coming in next season in Paul Tyson and Taulia Tagovailoa. But recruiting does come down to more than success on the field; it is a mixture of that, a home feeling and a sense that this is the right place for me. Williams felt that Ohio State was the best route for him and he has potential to flourish in Columbus, but how does this affect the Tide’s 2019 class.

First, one has to consider that the Tide does have one wide receiver commit in the 2019 recruiting class in John Metchie. Metchie is one of the more aggressive wideouts in this class. He has experience in the secondary and knows how to make sure he is felt on the defensive side of the ball as well. He also has big plans for when he steps on campus.

“I want to win several National Championships and become the No.1 wide receiver in the nation,” Metchie said.

Alabama also has a commitment from a 4-Star tight end in Jahleel Billingsley. Billingsley has great knowledge of the game and knows how to bail out his quarterback when he gets in a bad predicament. Billingsley also has blocking experience as he can stalk block with the best of wide receivers as well as help create running lanes for running backs.

Some have called this a not so talented wide receiver class, which is not entirely truthful. There are plenty of great ones in this class. However, Alabama has not zoned in on the position. Alabama also has another big target still on the board in Wandale Robinson. They have intentions to play him in a similar fashion to Jaylen Waddle and Josh Jacobs. One can tell he will fit in that position perfectly.

The Tide still have several prominent targets still on the board and are in great position with many of them. Touchdown Alabama Magazine will keep you updated on the Tide’s recruiting moves.
