He will get better under the guidance of Josh Gattis — Alabama’s co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers’ coach — however, it seems like everyone from fans to those that look deep into the analytics of football are enjoying Jaylen Waddle.
The freshman posted a career-high 138 yards with two scores on three catches in the Tide’s 56-14 win over Louisiana.
While his 63-yard punt return touchdown and 94-yard score excited the crowd inside Bryant-Denny Stadium, Pro Football Focus took notice of Waddle’s effectiveness in space.
As a website that dives into the intricate parts of college and professional football, PFF put together a Week 5 Team of the Week on offense and defense. The graphic was based on which players delivered the best performances with a high level of efficiency. According to its grading scale, Waddle was one of three wide receivers named to the team – grading out at 95.8 rating.

Hailing from Houston, Texas, Waddle carried the highest grade on the team and finished his outing against the Ragin’ Cajuns with 201 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns.
He looks to continue improving and being a marquee impact on this team.
