He played on the biggest stage in college football back in January as he came off the bench to lead the University of Alabama football team to a 26-23 victory over Georgia in the College Football Playoff national title game; however, Tua Tagovailoa faces his first major road test as a starting quarterback tonight versus Louisiana State University inside Tiger Stadium.
Behind his play under center, the Crimson Tide brings in arguably the most explosive offense in the nation – averaging 54.1 points per game. He has yet to throw an interception in 152 consecutive passes and 25 touchdowns through eight games.
While he has been effective spreading the ball to a multitude of receivers, Tagovailoa will face an elite secondary.
LSU defensive backs, including Greedy Williams and Grant Delpit, have talked all week about how Alabama’s receivers have not faced a secondary like theirs and how Tagovailoa has not faced an elite defensive front. With a sellout crowd in Death Valley and CFP implications on the line, the sophomore from Hawaii has a chance to show the world why he deserves the Heisman.
Much will depend on Tagovailoa’s ability to get into an early rhythm, but just as important will the Tide’s offensive line giving him time in the pocket. He has been used to the big moment since high school and nothing short of greatness will be expected.
