Nick Saban discussed the Tide’s matchup with Mississippi State, provided injury updates, and discussed offensive coordinator, Mike Locksley during Wednesday’s press conference. Here are some of the things he said.
– “Practice was a little better today. We have a lot of respect for Mississippi State. We had some really tough games against them in the past and they are playing pretty well right now and I think our team need to focus on what we need to do to get better and I think a simple question you can ask yourself is am I better than I was on yesterday. Seems like it been a while since we played at home.”
Injury update on Jerry Jeudy
-“He was out there. He is fine. He got a little tweak and went in, but he’s fine. No problem”
-“I think their (Mississippi State) offensive scheme is difficult to defend. When you have a quarterback that runs the ball for more yards than the two running backs put together and both running backs are pretty good that tells how good of a runner he is. You are kind of defending a wild cat offense.”
Update on Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith
-They did a little more. They are doing a little bit more every day. We don’t want to push the envelop and make them worse. We just want to make them a little better and stronger everyday and decided what their role can be in the game.”
Talks on Mike Locksley
“Mike has experience. He has been a coordinator. He has been our program for a couple of years and coached on the staff a year ago. I think he knows our system and did a good job at adding some of the things that he likes and has done well. We have a really good offensive staff and he has done a wonderful job of working with all those guys and getting them together. I think he has done a good job with the players that we have and I hope we continue to improve and I think the players respond well to him and he does a really a good job.”
