4-Star tight end, Keon Zipperer, will announce his commitment live on ESPN on Wednesday, Dec. 19 during the 11 a.m. hour and Alabama is in the thick of things for his commitment.
Zipperer is a product of Lakeland High School. He released a top 6 on Oct. 5 and included the tide. Florida, Miami, LSU, Oklahoma and Penn State rounded out his list.
Alabama got Zipperer on campus for an official visit on Nov. 17-19. He talked to Touchdown Alabama Magazine before his official visit. He made it clear that the Tide was still heavily recruiting, even though they had a commitment from 2019 tight end, Jahleel Billingsley.
“They always tell me if they get me, they good,” Zipperer said
Many expected that the Tide would not take two tight ends in this class, but it now looks like they do not mind having two. Alabama has turned some great Florida prospect into great receiving threats and Zipperer could be next. He feels like he can keep the trend that players like Jerry Jeudy and Calvin Ridley have established.
“I really like it,” Zipperer said. “I feel I can be a part of the team and keep the tradition they have going on.”
Alabama has plans to increase the use of the tight end position in the passing game. They are pitching this to recruits in hopes they can add some great tight ends. Tide tight end, Irv Smith’s, success this season has caused this pitch to gain a ton of credibility.
A Billingsley and Zipperer combination could be an early sign of how dynamic Alabama’s tight end position could be in the future. Zipperer has all the tools to be a great receiving tight end. He runs crisp routes and knows how to use his size to be a mismatch. His aggressiveness is also shown in the trenches on the defensive side as he sometimes lines up on the defensive line.
Touchdown Alabama Magazine will keep you updated on Zipperer’s commitment and decision.
