While discussing his current recruiting class on ESPN, head coach Nick Saban announced that Eyabi Anoma has withdrawn his name from the NCAA transfer portal. Saban also shared his own thoughts on the transfer portal.
“That particular player is in, and we had a conversation, and now he’s out,” said Saban. “I do think it gives players options but I also think we want to make sure that they’re not putting decision making in the hands of people who may not be in the best position to make those decisions sometimes in terms of what’s in their best interest.”
Anoma appeared in 12 games this season and recorded nine total tackles along with two tackles for loss.
Anoma previously entered the transfer portal on Wednesday. Most believed that Enoma would, in fact, transfer to Maryland because of his familial ties.
The transfer portal was created back in October of last year and allows student-athletes to simply enter their name into a database and wait for other teams to reach out to them. Players may also withdraw their name from the portal at any time.
More details to come.
