After tossing an early interception, redshirt sophomore Mac Jones calmed down and looked the best of Alabama’s four quarterbacks in the first half of Saturday’s A-Day Game.
The Florida native completed 13 of 16 pass attempts for 209 yards with two touchdowns, including a 22-yard strike to Xavier Williams to give White a 17-10 lead over Crimson.
He starting to build chemistry with freshman John Metchie, as Jones found the four-star Canadian weapon three times for 101 yards.
His 49-yard hookup with Metchie helped set up a 43-yard field goal from Will Reichard, which he made to cut Crimson’s lead to 7-3 in the first quarter.
Head coach Nick Saban mentioned at the beginning of spring practice that Alabama would provide Jones every opportunity to show he can run this offense. Following a season where he was behind Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa, it’s a good sign to see him navigate the group.
