Tua Tagovailoa to serve as camp counselor at Manning Passing Academy

© John David Mercer - USA TODAY Sports

After spending time last summer with the first royal family of football, Tua Tagovailoa will return to the Manning Passing Academy as a camp counselor.

According to an announcement on Tuesday, he will be one of 36 quarterbacks (six guys to be announced) at the event and one of seven Southeastern Conference signal callers represented.

Representing the conference with Tagovailoa will be Joe Burrow of LSU, Jake Bentley of South Carolina, Jake Fromm of Georgia, Matt Corral of Ole Miss, Ben Hicks of Arkansas and Jarrett Guarantano of Tennessee.

Clemson’s quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who beat Tagovailoa in the College Football Playoff National Championship in January, has also accepted an invitation. Since 1996, the Manning Passing Academy has been operated by Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. All three were successful quarterbacks in the SEC, while Peyton and Eli won Super Bowl championships.

The venue is for boys from grades 8-12 and goes from June 27-30 on the campus of Nicholls State University at Thibodaux, La. Tagovailoa is coming off a record-setting sophomore campaign as his 3,966 passing yards, 43 touchdown passes and 48 total scores all were single-season records for the Crimson Tide. He was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and a All-American; however, the returning junior wants to prove that he can finish the job.

While he operates as a counselor, expect for Tagovailoa to throw some at the academy.
