Alabama tight end coach Jeff Banks extended an offer to 2020 tight end, Blake Smith, and the Tide is now in the ‘mix of things for Smith.
Smith doubles as a tight end and backup quarterback for South Carrol High School. He now has 33 offers after reeling in offers from Alabama and Michigan last week. The Texas product described receiving an offer from Alabama as a surreal moment.
“It is just so surreal and crazy,” Smith said. ‘”It is a kids’ dream to say they received an offer from a prestigious program like that. It is hard to beat that level of coaching and competitiveness there. It is almost a dream come true.”

Smith and Alabama are currently working on when he will get down to Tuscaloosa for a visit. He has yet to meet any members of Alabama’s coaching staff besides Banks, but he wants to meet the rest of the Tide’s staff as soon as possible. He has great respect for Nick Saban and feels he is one of the most legendary college football coaches.
“He has done an unbelievable job,” Smith said. “Not a lot of coaches have that much success and it is just crazy how I have an opportunity and chance to be a part of it. He is going to be legendary.”
At 6-5 and 235 pounds, Smith has good striking force and is a great blocker on the run. He showed he can be an option in the receiving game during his junior season by catching two receiving touchdowns. He also spent some time at quarterback.
Caden Clark remains as Alabama’s only 2020 tight end commit. Alabama has continued to offer several tight ends over the last month or so as they want to add some depth there. They only landed one tight end in Jahleel Billingsley during the 2019 recruiting cycle.
The fact the Tide tried Cameron Latu out at tight end during the Spring was even more evidence they want more depth at the position and want to improve the way they use tight ends in their offense in the future.
