Alabama QB Mac Jones had his “best day” in team’s first scrimmage

Marvin Gentry - USA TODAY Sports

Looks the episode from In My Own Words entitled “Mac Jones heating up Bama’s fall camp” was not a joke.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban is giving the redshirt sophomore a chance to run the offense and the native Floridian is doing business.

As a third-year player, Jones understands the system and Saban made it known at SEC Media Days that he’s “matured” at the quarterback position.

In pushing Tua Tagovailoa and trying to show a fan base that’s more than capable, Jones impressed his coach on Saturday at the Crimson Tide’s first scrimmage. After the two-hour exhibition, Saban took to the podium at Bryant-Denny Stadium to compliment his QB.

“Mac played well today,” Saban said of Jones.

“He had a really good day today. He had a high completion percentage, threw for some big plays, really did a good job and some of it was against the first defense. I thought he did a really good job of trying to lead the team when he was in there. He did a really good job.”
