2019 Alabama Football Practice Reports

Alabama receiver Jaylen Waddle remains a matchup nightmare

Jason Getz - USA TODAY Sports

“No one can cover him.”

The statement above came from multiple sources that talked with yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine about Jaylen Waddle, following Alabama’s first scrimmage last week.

Teammates described him as the “human joystick” upon his arrival from Houston, Texas in the 2018 class.

He immediately turned heads in fall camp and Nick Saban was not going to have him off the field. As a freshman, Waddle took college football by storm – totaling 45 receptions for 848 yards and seven touchdowns.

He was the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Year, made the SEC All-Freshman Team and was an All-American.

The 5-foot-10, 182-pounder averaged 18.84 yards a catch through 15 games; however, Steve Sarkisian (offensive coordinator) is crafting a system this offseason that potentially will make Waddle even better.
