Alabama’s coaching staff was in the state of California this week and Mater Dei High School was one of their stops as they got a chance to check in on their 5-Star quarterback commit, Bryce Young and extend a couple of new offers.
One of those offers went out to 4-Star wide receiver, CJ Williams. Williams is a sophomore at Mater Dei and holds a total of 12 Division 1 offers. Despite playing his high school football in California, Williams has some deep roots in the state of Alabama, specifically Tuscaloosa, which made learning about his offer a stunning experience.
“I was stunned because being born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama was the team I always grew up rooting for, the team my entire family loves,” Williams said.
This is beyond crazy! I am truly blessed to be able to say I have received an offer from my father’s Alma Mater, The University of Alabama! Williams’ father is also an alumnus of the University of Alabama.
The Tide’s offensive coordinator, Steve Sarkisian, notified Williams of his offer. Sarkisian has a great relationship with schools inside the state of California. His relationship with Mater Dei helped the Tide reel in Young.
Williams and Young had quite the connection going during the season. Williams finished his sophomore season with 50 receptions, 680 receiving yards and five touchdowns. The sophomore said playing with young was an honor on and off the field.
“Bryce Young is a phenomenal quarterback in so many ways,” Williams said. “But I feel Bryce really excels at making everyone on the field better. I definitely would not be upset if I had to play a couple of more years with him.”
There is no visit date set for Williams to come to Tuscaloosa as of yet. He is looking towards checking out Alabama during the summer, while he visits some of his family in the yellowhammer state.
“I have a whole bunch of family, that still live in Tuscaloosa,” Williams said. “I will definitely be back there soon. My dad and I are planning to get down there during the summer.”
