Troubling news has occurred with a former Alabama football standout.
According to NJ.com, Quinnen Williams was arrested on Thursday night for attempting to board his flight at LaGuardia Airport while carrying a handgun. News came from the Port Authority Police.
Williams, the No. 3 pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, had 28 tackles last season with 2.5 sacks in his rookie year for the New York Jets.
A native of Birmingham, Ala., he led the Crimson Tide in tackles for loss (19.5) and sacks (eight) while having 12 quarterback hurries in 2018.
The 6-foot-3, 303-pound defensive tackle won the Outland Trophy and was selected first-team All-SEC and unanimous All-American.
He arrived to Alabama in its 2016 recruiting class.
Williams was on two conference championship teams and a College Football Playoff National Championship team in 2017. The incident on Thursday night happened around 9:15 p.m., and the 22-year-old was arrested for criminal possession of a weapon.
While he does have a permit for the gun in Alabama, New York has a strict handgun possession – according to the article.
Per the Law Office of Martin D. Kane, there are two general charges to handgun possession.
Possession of a loaded handgun or possession of an unloaded handgun are both serious felony charges.
Williams could face some jail time. His case will be handled by the Queens District Attorney’s office.
