He feels at home at the University of Alabama and is ready for this season.

After his success at IMG Academy and Indiana University, Dr. Matt Rhea was hired to the Crimson Tide as its Director of Performance Science. As he intends to improve the speed and power of the Tide for the fall, he is excited about the resources the program is providing him.

With the addition of the new science center and Alabama bringing in new technology to condition players for better performances, Rhea believes things in Tuscaloosa (Ala.) are about to get ‘really fun.’ He is already starting to mesh well with Jeff Allen (head athletic trainer) and his staff, and wants to do everything he can to decrease potential injuries as much as possible.

Not only did he play three years of football at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Southern Utah University, but he also worked as a strength and conditioning coach for 13 years. Rhea did combine training (five years), high school (five years) and college (three years) at S&C coach.

He has published nearly 100 studies in performance enhancement and lectured in seven different countries. Rhea also launched a consulting company in 2001, providing direction in areas such as athletic development, speed training, injury prevention and performance training to clients in all major professional venues, International Olympic program and top collegiate athletic departments.
