Lake McRee puts Alabama in top 10, continues getting stronger

Alabama continues to get some good news on the recruiting trail despite not being able to host any recruits as 2021 3-Star tight end, Lake McRee, included them in his top 10 schools Saturday.

Auburn, LSU, Michigan State, Penn State, Purdue, Texas, TCU, Washington and USC rounded out McRee’s top 10. The Texas prospect was set to visit Alabama this Spring but had to cancel the visit due to the NCAA dead period. Alabama offered McRee in January.

The 3-Star recruit said it felt unreal when he got a surprising offer from Alabama.

“I was actually at school during my last period of class and coach (Jeff) Banks text me and said whenever you are free, give me a call,” McRee said. “The text was pretty interesting, so I called him and we had a pretty long phone call and he told me Alabama was offering me. I was really caught by surprise, called my mom and dad right after. It felt unreal. It is the University of Alabama, so obviously it is a great school.”

Alabama showed great interest in several tight end targets in the 2020 recruiting class. They were able to pull in 4-Star tight end, Caden Clark, and sign grad transfer tight end, Carl Tucker. Banks and the Tide will look to have more success in the 2021 recruiting class, which is why he has remained in contact with McRee.

“I talk to coach Banks the most,” McRee said. “He texts me and asks me how I am and how my knee is going with me rehabbing it right now. His biggest concern is me staying healthy. I was supposed to go there, but I had to cancel because of everything going on with the coronavirus.”

McRee had to miss his entire junior season due to a torn ACL. While the entire country is practicing social distance during this time, McRee is during some individual workouts as well as rehabbing his knee.

“For workouts, our coach has gave us some workouts to do around the house,” McRee said. “My physical therapist also has a rehab center and workout room, where I can rehab in, where it is just me.”

The last time he was in real game action, The 6-4 prospect was consistent at catching the ball in traffic and was a willing blocker.

McRee’s recruitment is 100 percent open. He is unsure when he wants to make a decision due to the fact he can not take any visits. Like most recruits, he is playing the waiting game.
