VIDEO: Alabama with a three-man race for both safety spots this season

Cedric Mason - Touchdown Alabama Magazinec

Even with the departures of Tua Tagovailoa, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III and Jedrick Wills on offense, fans of Alabama football are not too concerned about that side.

The Crimson Tide returns experience, big talent and held on to Steve Sarkisian for another season.

Nick Saban has placed much of his attention on defense throughout the spring.

Whether it was signed major recruits in this year’s class, hiring Charlie Strong as a defensive analyst or bringing on other defensive assistants, Saban wants to be assured of the Tide being strong in the coming fall. Improvement will happen on the defensive line and at linebacker; however, the question mark lies within the secondary. After losing a veteran group to the NFL Draft, Alabama’s return a young unit of defensive backs. Aside from Patrick Surtain II, Daniel Wright has the most experience – seeing action in 31 career games since the 2017 season.

While it will have incredible athleticism, the secondary must grow its chemistry.

Potentially, Alabama will have three names battling for two safety spots. The trio of Wright, Jordan Battle and DeMarcco Hellams are all gifted. On Friday, yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine broke down the Tide’s defensive backfield via In My Own Words and singled out Wright as the leader for the group.
