Nick Saban has never been the one to shy away from his desire to win and his willingness to learn from others.
In a recent interview with ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt, the six-time National Championship winning coach shared his latest source of inspiration.
Like many people across the world, Saban was impressed with the way Michael Jordan explained his winning mentality during ‘The Last Dance’, a documentary the chronicled the Chicago Bulls’ 1998 season. The Alabama head coach was so impressed, he even shared the scene with his players.
“I think that is the best thing I heard in a long time because there is nothing that I could agree with more,” Saban said. “The way he said it, the conviction that he said it with, the things he did, the way he lived it all the time, he competed and played. I have talked to some recruits and some players. I actually sent the last couple of minutes of that number eight-show because I wanted players to see that.”
“That was so inspirational, so powerful, so compelling. I think it is a reflection of a great competitor and what they are willing to sacrifice to be able to win, what they are willing to sacrifice to be the leader. Sometimes I see fewer and fewer people, who want to be a leadership role because it challenges them to do things they are not comfortable doing. Sometimes you have to be comfortable being uncomfortable. I think Michael said it as best as you can say it. It came from the heart and I loved it.”
