Since the conclusion of the Citrus Bowl, the University of Alabama football program has lost eight student-athletes to the NCAA transfer portal. The latest two entries were Tyrell Shavers (wide receiver) and Markail Benton (linebacker) as both will take their talents elsewhere.
Shavers, a native of Lewisville, Texas, caught one pass last season and recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown.

The 6-foot-6 target was a four-star in the 2017 recruiting class and Crimson Tide fans carried high hopes of him being successful. As for Benton, he was also a four-star in 2017 from Central High School in Phenix City, Ala. He recorded 19 tackles last year and 33 stops overall in 33 career games; however, Benton would be suspended from the team.
With Alabama preparing its roster for a College Football Playoff National Championship run in the coming fall, yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine discussed what the departures of Shavers and Benton mean going forward.
This opens up an opportunity for younger players.
