The National Football Foundation as well as the College Football Hall of Fame released its list of names who have made the 2021 induction ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
“It’s an enormous honor to just be on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot considering more than 5.4 million people have played college football and only 1,027 players have been inducted,” said NFF President and CEO Steve Hatchell in a press release. “The Hall’s requirement of being a First-Team All-American creates a much smaller pool of about 1,500 individuals who are even eligible. Being in today’s elite group means an individual is truly among the greatest to have ever played the game, and we look forward to announcing the 2021 College Football Hall of Fame Class Presented by ETT early next year.”
The University of Alabama had two of its former players make the ballot in defensive back Antonio Langham and offensive lineman Chris Samuels.
Langham is Alabama’s all time leader in interceptions (19), and was a unanimous First Team All-American in 1993, a year in which he also received the Jim Thorpe Award. He aided the Crimson Tide in making three postseason appearances, along with a 1992 national championship win over Miami.
Samuels, an Outland Award winner, was a unanimous First Team All-American selection in 1999 where he also helped Alabama win an SEC championship. He was also a Jacobs Blocking Trophy winner that season for he did not allow a single sack for the entire season, while also helping running back Shawn Alexander rush for over 1,000 yards.
The full ballot includes 78 players with seven coaches, with the official announcement of the 2021 hall of fame class being made in 2021.
