President Trump asks Alabama Chancellor if Tide will be playing football in 2020

Cedric Mason - Touchdown Alabama Magazine

Alabama fans are not the only ones that want football to happen in the fall.

Despite the global pandemic of the Coronavirus, President Donald Trump is even inquisitive about the Crimson Tide returning to action.

The 45th Commander-in-Chief of the United States attended the Alabama-LSU matchup last year at Bryant-Denny Stadium and despite a 46-41 loss for the Tide, he seemed to enjoy himself.

During a meeting inside the East Room at the White House, Trump asked Finis E. St. John IV — University of Alabama Chancellor — about the possibility of Alabama playing football this season.

“Mr. President that’s not the first time we have been asked that question,” St. John said. “We are planning to play the season at the University of Alabama. We understand that it creates great difficulties and complexities, and we are hoping for that. It is important to a lot of people, but we’ll do our best on that one.”

Trump also made sure to have St. John give Coach Nick Saban a hello for him.

“He’s a great coach,” Trump said.

With newly confirmed cases of the virus rising, it’s starting to become more of a toss-up as to whether or not the season will happen. Some conferences have thought about pushing the event to the spring; however, that creates a challenge also.

Saban, along with other leaders in collegiate and professional athletes, has spoken on the importance of wearing masks and practicing social distancing.
