Two of Alabama’s 2021 linebacker commits were named to the High School Butkus Award watchlist Monday.
Kendrick Blackshire and Deontae Lawson were listed on the 2020 watchlist. This award is given to the best senior high school linebacker in the country every year. Dylan Moses was the last Alabama player to win the award when he earned as a senior at IMG Academy in 2016.
Blackshire verbally committed to Alabama July 14. The Texas product comes in at 6-2 and 240 pounds. He is looking to rebound during his senior season as he had to miss his entire junior season with an ACL injury.

Lawson is the Tide’s longest-standing commit in the 2021 recruiting class. As a junior, The Mobile, Alabama product mainly played inside linebacker and served as a wide receiver on the offensive side of the football. Mobile Christian School will most likely use him there this upcoming season as well.

Alabama currently has 15 recruits verbally committed in the 2021 recruiting class, including Lawson and Blackshire, who are both expected to play inside linebacker at the next level. Ian Jackson, a 4-Star LB from Prattville, Alabama, may also play there.
