On Friday Alabama sophomore John Metchie announced on his Instagram story that the football team will be marching in the streets of Tuscaloosa on Monday and asking others to join them.
Monday is a scheduled off day for the football team.
This is in response to the recent protests around the country to raise awareness on racial justice.
Alabama football has united in the past to combat racial inequality with statements from players and even a video released back in June.
Recently offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood, who authored the team’s video, informed the media on Wednesday that the team still feels the same way about the state of the country since the release of the video three months ago.
“Of course it’s been discussed around the team and stuff like that,” said Leatherwood. “But I mean, just like I said earlier, we feel the same way as we did a few months ago when we put out that video. Of course, we’re not really angered but like we just don’t feel good about that kind of stuff. We don’t like to see it. It shouldn’t be normal to be seeing that kind of stuff every few weeks, every month or so. It’s not good. We don’t like it.”
Fellow offensive lineman Chris Owens recently posted a thread of tweets relaying his frustrations with racial injustice that’s occurred throughout the year.
I am fed up. People who look like me are fed up. As a country we should all be tired of history constantly repeating itself. We are sick and tired of the same thing over and over and over again with no one being held accountable for their actions. (1)

Other SEC teams including Ole Miss and LSU have also come together to raise awareness on the same issue.
