The time has come for John Metchie III to show out at wide receiver.

Despite the talent of Javon Baker and capabilities of Slade Bolden, the native Canadian fended off both players to grab the third and final starting job for Alabama at receiver.

According to the depth chart from Nick Saban, Metchie will be at the bottom of the formation as the “Z” receiver — opposite DeVonta Smith.

The 6-foot, 195-pounder arrived as a four-star in the Crimson Tide’s 2019 class, following a great career at St. James High School in Maryland.

He totaled more than 1,300 yards rushing, more than 2,500 yards receiving and 42 touchdowns in four seasons. Metchie also spent time at The Peddie School in New Jersey, before coming to the Tide. He played in all 13 games in 2019, recording four catches for 23 yards.

Metchie carries a body structure that resembles former Tide standout, Calvin Ridley.

He posted strong performances at both scrimmages and per Saban, Metchie is more than capable of making explosive plays.

With Mac Jones as the starting quarterback, he has Metchie, Smith and Jaylen Waddle at his disposal. Steve Sarkisian, Alabama’s offensive coordinator, is about to having a very exciting season calling plays for this group.
