Following rumors of Alabama making a change at defensive coordinator by replacing Pete Golding with analyst Charlie Strong, sources have informed Touchdown Alabama that this is in fact not true.
“Bogus” and “Not true” were some of the phrases shared with the website.
One source said that “Nobody around here has heard anything remotely close to this.”
Head coach Nick Saban also discussed during his Monday press conference that the issues on defense isn’t the play calling but the execution.
“First of all, I don’t think the call is necessarily the issue,” Saban said. “I think the execution of the call has been the issue. Sometimes we coach players for what we want them to be. But we really need to coach them for what they are.”
The last time Saban made such a switch his hand was forced was when offensive play-calling duties had to be handed to Steve Sarkisian ahead of the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship game when then offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin parted ways with the team ahead of the game.
Strong joined Saban’s coaching staff back in February and has served as a defensive analyst for the team’s first three weeks of the season.
