The SEC Championship game resulted in a bittersweet victory for Alabama fans.
Although it punched its ticket to the College Football Playoff with the 52-46 win, the Crimson Tide lost one of its most important pieces for the rest of the season. Late in the fourth quarter, starting center Landon Dickerson went down with a knee injury after a DeVonta Smith touchdown.
Dickerson had to be carted off of the field and following the game head coach Nick Saban mentioned that the injury was likely pretty serious. And after a bit of confirmation during Saban’s teleconference on Sunday, Dickerson will not be able to suit up with his teammates again.
The news is devastating for Dickerson who is in his final year with the Tide, but on Sunday night he shared a heartfelt post on social media showing his appreciation towards his team.
Words can’t describe how thankful and appreciative I am for all the thoughts, prayers, and support. I would not be the man I am today without this team. Since day 1 they welcomed me with open arms and treated me like family. This team is my FAMILY. #Bama pic.twitter.com/nHWUcEGapk

“Words can’t describe how thankful and appreciative I am for all the thoughts, prayers, and support,” read Dickerson’s post. “I would not be the man I am today without this team. Since day (one) they welcomed me with open arms and treated me like family. This is my FAMILY.”
Since he first joined Alabama last season after transferring from Florida State, Dickerson has created a tight-nit family-like atmosphere within the lockerroom. He has been mentioned multiple times throughout the season as one of the team’s emotional leaders and it showed when the entire team ran onto the field to support him when he was carted off against Florida.

“I think he’s probably one of the most popular guys on our team,” Saban said when asked about Dickerson. “He has great leadership qualities. His impact can affect guys in a positive way. He’s got a great personality. I don’t know anybody on our team that doesn’t really like him. I think that was demonstrated by how everybody reacted to him getting injured.”
