Nick Saban has another coaching search to perform, and this time it is on defense.

Karl Scott is expected to take a coaching position in the National Football League after spending three seasons at Alabama, working with cornerbacks. He coached 132 pass breakups and 35 interceptions from 2018 to 2020 while winning two Southeastern Conference championships (2018, 2020) and a College Football Playoff National Championship last year.

Scott mentored two All-Americans, Deionte Thompson and Patrick Surtain II, and put five defensive backs on NFL rosters.

He’s positioned Surtain as a top-10 draft pick for this year and tutored Malachi Moore to being a Freshman All-American.

With him moving on to the Minnesota Vikings, Saban and the Crimson Tide have three options: hire a cornerbacks’ coach, move Pete Golding to defensive backs and hire an inside linebackers’ coach, or move Golding to cornerbacks, make Freddie Roach a co-defensive coordinator/inside linebackers’ coach and hire a defensive line coach.

Regardless of what happens, Alabama has to replace Scott.

According to respectable sources, yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine has learned of nine potential names Saban is targeting for cornerbacks’ coach.
