Former Alabama wide receiver and Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith gave a definitive answer when an NFL team asked him about former Alabama quarterbacks, Mac Jones and Tua Tagovailoa at the senior bowl.
According to Monday Morning Quarterback’s senior NFL reporter, Albert Breer, Smith answered the question fairly quickly.
“One team asked Smith, point blank: Tua Tagovailoa or Jones? The question was barely finished before Smith answered: Mac Jones. He was bold and definitive about it, as I heard it,” Breer wrote.
This answer is not surprising considering Jones was Alabama’s starting quarterback during Smith’s Heisman-Trophy winning season. The Louisiana native pulled in 117 receptions for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns with Jones leading Alabama’s offense.
There is also no denying the memories Smith and Tagovailoa were able to create in Tuscaloosa. Tagovailoa threw Smith’s first college receiving touchdown, and they connected for one of the biggest plays in college football history to give Alabama its 17th National Championship in school history with a walk-off touchdown.
Smith and Jones are gearing up for the 2021 NFL Draft. Both are projected to be early picks.
