Shawn Murphy announced his verbal commitment to Alabama football Sunday.
Murphy is Alabama’s twelfth commit in the 2022 recruiting class. He is the Tide’s fourth five-star pledge and their third linebacker commit. Alabama beat out Florida, LSU, Penn State and Ohio State to grab a commitment from Murphy.
Alabama was among the first group of schools to offer the Virginia product when he was a freshman. Murphy previously stated he wanted to go to a program where he could get the tools needed to be successful after his playing days were over.
“I want to be with people I can talk to without having to be hesitant and to feel like I am getting all of the essentials I need to have a job of my choice at the end of college or after an NFL career,” Murphy told Touchdown Alabama.
Alabama’s newest commit stands at 6-foot-2 and is a solid 222 pounds, according to the head football coach of Unity Reed High School Carroll Walker. Alabama was able to see Murphy perform at camp in June.
“When he went down to work for Alabama, he had a good showing,” Walker told Touchdown Alabama. “Coach Saban was very impressed with him.”
The five-star recruit is one of the most complete linebackers in the 2022 recruiting class. He attacks plays and has a nose for the football.
