The Denver Broncos needed to improve its secondary, and Patrick Surtain II does it for them.
Denver took Surtain with the No. 9 overall pick of the NFL Draft. He was a marquee cornerback in three seasons for the University of Alabama and looks to carry the mentality to the pros. Surtain recorded a pick-six last year against Mississippi State and concluded his career with four interceptions. He helped the Crimson Tide to a national championship campaign in 2020.

Surtain has caught the attention of many veterans — including Von Miller — in training camp.
During a joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings, the rookie recorded a pass breakup.
He trusted his technique, was not fooled by any moves from the wide receiver, and made a play on the ball. Practicing with Jerry Jeudy has made Surtain a better corner.
