Jake pope announced his commitment to Alabama football Monday.
Pope is the Crimson Tide’s 14th verbal commit in the 2022 recruiting class and their second pledge from the state of Georgia. He chose Alabama over Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame and North Carolina. Pope’s commitment gives Alabama two defensive back pledges.
Alabama’s coaching staff started to make a hard push for Pope in January when they first extended an offer to him. The Buford, Georgia product referred to Alabama’s offer as a ‘dream offer’ when he was notified. He visited Tuscaloosa on his own a couple of weeks later in February when the recruiting dead period was in place.
Pope made a return trip to Tuscaloosa in June for an official visit.
“The Alabama visit was amazing,” Pope said. “To see everything they have for their players to be successful is great. I loved spending time with everyone there.”
The Alabama commit currently stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 190 pounds. He was exciting to watch as a junior for Buford. Pope shined on both sides of the football.
“I feel like I can track the ball down on offense very well and high point it,” Pope said. “I also feel like my speed helps me on both sides of the ball. I also can tackle in open space and cover receivers well. I play both sides of the ball so he (Charles Kelly) said he could see me on either side, but he specifically wants me as a safety.”
