Alabama rolls past Miami in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game

It was a lopsided affair right from the opening kick.

Alabama extended its season opener win streak in Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday with a blowout victory over Miami.

New starting quarterback Bryce Young looked like a seasoned veteran finding open guys in and outside of the pocket. Young connected a number of long passes to wide receiver John Metchie, Ohio State transfer Jameson Williams and tight end Cameron Latu.

At times the protection wasn’t perfect and the Hurricanes defense forced a few throwaways, but Young’s situational play is what was equally as impressive as his 90 yard touchdown passes.

Young finished the game 27/38 for 344 yards and four touchdowns in his stellar debut.

Another player taking advantage of his new opportunity was running back Brian Robinson. Robinson who was primarily a reserve running back over the past two seasons led the Crimson Tide in yards and attempts on the day and added some physical plays which set the tone for the game.

Other than Young’s debut, possibly the biggest story coming out of the game is the performance of Alabama’s defense.

The unit has seen criticism from fans and analysts for over three years and today silenced a few doubters who thought the down streak would continue. Pete Goldings defense held the hurricanes to 13 points which is seven below the team’s average from a year ago.

Alabama’s defensive front appeared to be the difference in the game, as it broke up a bunch of plays for the Hurricanes and put a number of hits on quarterback D’Eriq King.

Outside linebacker Will Anderson lived in Miami’s backfield wreaking havoc on every snap.

Anderson finished with nine tackles, 1.0 sacks and one tackle for loss amongst numerous quarterback pressures.

Alabama will hold its home opener next Saturday against Mercer.
