Despite a few moments of promise, the return of Tua Tagovaiola ultimately ended in disappointment on Sunday as the Miami Dolphins fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-20 in London.
It was Tagovailoa’s first game back since injuring his ribs in the team’s Week 2 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. For not playing for four weeks, Tagovailoa did not appear rusty in his return as he completed 33-of-47 passes for 329 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
But a turnover on downs late in the fourth quarter led to a last-second Jaguars field goal giving the franchise its first win of the 2021 season.
Despite having a solid individual turnout, the game left only disappointment for the Dolphins as well as an emotional Tagovailoa who had tears in his eyes during the post-game press conference.
“To me, it doesn’t matter how I performed today,” Tagovailoa said. “We lost. It’s tough to kind of critique how I performed or how any of our guys performed. Right now, it’s tough in the locker room.”
