Earlier this week, former Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs was involved in a car wreck in Las Vegas while he was driving under the influence resulting in the death of 23-year-old Tina O. Tintor and her dog. Ruggs now faces felony charges which could result in serving up to 26 years in prison if convicted.
On Wednesday his former head coach Nick Saban commented on the situation.
“Our thoughts and prayers certainly go out to all involved in this tragic situation, especially the victims. Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with them,” Saban said to reporters. “But out thoughts and prayers are also with Henry, his family, and I think this is something that a lot of folks can learn from. I think a lot of players on our team, when we say challenge people to make good decisions, do the right thing, because sometimes the consequences can be devastating, and these consequences are gonna be pretty devastating to Henry.
“We love him, we’re gonna support him through it. But we also have a lot of compassion for the victims, and our thoughts and prayers are also with them.”
Before the accident, Ruggs was driving 156 miles per hour with a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit before the crash killing Tintor. After being released from the hospital, Ruggs was booked into Las Vegas jail and was later released by the Las Vegas Raiders, who selected him with the 12th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Ruggs is due again in court on Nov. 10.
