It’s been the John Metchie show through the first two-quarters of Alabama vs Arkansas thus far.
The junior wide receiver has unsurprisingly been the favorite target of quarterback Bryce Young and has been borderline unguardable. In the first quarter along, Metchie caught four passes for 69 yards and continued his dominance through the second with a 20-yard touchdown to start the quarter.
Metchie ended the half with six catches for 122 yards and a touchdown.
Alabama’s run game wasn’t able to get going until the end of the second quarter where Brian Robinson ripped off a few tough runs. The Crimson Tide did make a change on the offensive line going into the game with Damieon George replacing Chris Owens at right tackle and has generally given Young consistent pockets.
Defensively it’s been a challenge for Alabama, especially in the second quarter.
Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson got his offense rolling with a massive 13 play 96-yard drive ending in a 20-yard Treylon Burks touchdown reception.
Following a 79 yard Jameson Williams score, the Razorbacks answered again a fast-paced seven-play 75-yard drive resulting in a short touchdown run from running back Dominique Johnson.
Alabama ended the half offensively with a much-needed 75-yard drive capped off by another touchdown reception from Williams going for 32-yards with a fantastic downfield block by Metchie. Williams had himself a big first half as well catching 4 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
The Crimson Tide went to the half leading 24-14.
