5-Star DE Keon Keeley gets offer from Alabama, schedules visit

Notre Dame commit and five-star defensive end, Keon Keeley picked up an offer from Alabama football earlier this week.

Keeley is a product of Berkeley Prep in Tampa, Florida and holds more than 20 D1 offers. He verbally committed to the Fighting Irish in June and has remained firmed to his pledge. However, his recruitment has continued to flourish with offers from Alabama and Ohio State coming in recently.

Alabama’s wide receiver coach informed Keeley of his offer from the Crimson Tide.

“I found out through coach Wiggins at my school,” Keeley said. “I felt really happy and excited about it. They are an amazing program and are extremely successful with great coaches, so success is always there.”

Alabama is expected to host Keeley for an unofficial visit on Jan. 29. The Notre Dame pledge is expected to get an opportunity to spend time with multiple members of Alabama’s coaching staff, including the Tide’s head coach Nick Saban. Keeley is looking forward to catching up with Saban, who he feels carries a lot of weight in college football.

“It is crazy to have an opportunity to play under him,” said Keeley. “It is obvious that he is an amazing coach and his name says a lot.”

Keeley is projected to be an edge rusher at the collegiate level, and he currently stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs 240 pounds. The five-star prospect was able to be very disruptive coming off the edge during his junior season with a variety of rush moves. He said he feels he knows how to use his long frame to his advantage, and he looks up to players who play similar to a former Alabama outside linebacker.

“I feel I do a good job using my length and speed to create space when pass rushing and stopping the run along with my strength to put pressure on the quarterback,” Keeley said. “Guys like Terrell Lewis are who I like to watch.”

Alabama is expected to host several top recruits throughout the rest of the month, and Keeley will be just one of the five-star recruits in Tuscaloosa over the next few weeks.
