New assistant coaches and staffers get approved contracts and raises for Alabama football

The contracts and raises have arrived for Alabama’s coaching staff and staffers.

According to the University of Alabama Board of Trustees, a meeting took place in Huntsville on Friday to approve the compensation of the Crimson Tide’s four new assistant coaches, experienced assistants, and staffers.

Nick Saban hired Eric Wolford, Travaris Robinson, Coleman Hutzler, and Joe Cox in the offseason. Wolford replaces Doug Marrone as the offensive line coach. Robinson takes over cornerbacks for Jay Valai, and Hutzler is coaching outside linebackers and special teams. Cox will serve as tight ends coach. All have been approved for contracts that will go through February 2024.

Contracts for Alabama’s new assistant coaches

-Eric Wolford —  Offensive Line Coach: $900,000 through Feb. 2024

-Travaris Robinson — Cornerbacks Coach: $800,000 through Feb. 2024

-Coleman Hutzler — Outside Linebackers Coach/Special Teams coordinator: $495,000 to $595,000 through Feb. 2024

-Joe Cox — Tight Ends Coach: $325,000 through Feb. 2024

Alabama’s experienced assistants on Saban’s staff got approved for raises. These names include Robert Gillespie, Charles Kelly, Freddie Roach, and Holmon Wiggins. Wiggins, who enters his fourth season, received the biggest bump of the group.

Details on the raises for experienced assistants are below.

Approved raises for Alabama’s experienced assistant coaches

-Robert Gillespie — Running Backs Coach: $565,000 through Feb. 2024 (previously at $535,000)

-Charles Kelly — Associate Defensive Coordinator/Safeties Coach: $850,000 through Feb. 2024 (previously at $825,000)

-Freddie Roach — Defensive Line Coach: $750,000 through Feb. 2024 (previously at $720,000)

-Holmon Wiggins — Wide Receivers Coach/Head Offensive Coach: $850,000 through Feb. 2024 (previously at $575,000)

Alabama’s staffers received approved raises too. These names include Jeff Allen, David Ballou, Sal Sunseri, Drew Svoboda, Ellis Ponder, Daniel Bush, and Bob Welton. Details on the raises for the Crimson Tide’s staffers are below.

-Jeff Allen — Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine: $400,000 through Feb. 28, 2025 (previously at $270,000)

-David Ballou — Director of Sports Performance: $700,000 through Feb. 2024 (previously at $550,000)

-Sal Sunseri — Senior Special Assistant to the head coach: $695,000 through Feb. 2023

-Drew Svoboda — Senior Special Assistant to the head coach: $450,000 through Feb. 2023

-Daniel Bush — Director of Football Recruiting: $165,000 through Feb. 2023

-Bob Welton — Director of Player Personnel: $235,000 through Feb. 2024 (previously at $225,000)

-Ellis Ponder — Associate Athletics Director, Football Chief Operating Officer: $240,000 through Feb. 2023
