O.J. Howard represents Alabama football as the lone tight end in the Nick Saban era to be drafted in the first round.
Cameron Latu enters his fifth season with the Crimson Tide and third as a tight end. He came in Alabama’s 2018 signing class as a four-star outside linebacker from Utah. Latu transitioned to tight end in the summer of 2019 and became a star last year. He set the school’s single-season record for touchdown catches by a tight end (eight) surpassing Irv Smith’s seven scores in 2018.
The 6-foot-5, 244-pounder caught 26 passes for 410 receiving yards. People expected Jahleel Billingsley to become a superstar, but he underperformed and entered the transfer portal. He is now at Texas, and it allows Latu a chance to show Tide fans his importance to the offense. Latu is ready to be the best tight end in college football and secure a first-round draft stock for 2023.
On Wednesday, Stephen Smith of Touchdown Alabama Magazine discussed Latu via In My Own Words.
Smith broke down why fans should not sleep on the talented tight end in the fall.
