Former Alabama defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis is headed to the Washington Commanders.
Mathis, who was voted a team captain in his final year with the Crimson Tide, is an effective interior player who took big leaps rushing the passer in 2021. During his senior season, Mathis recorded 53 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, nine sacks, two pass deflections and two fumble recoveries. His efforts on the defensive line got him selected as a second-team All-American as well as being named to the All-SEC second team by the coaches.
Mathis is now the fourth Alabama player to be selected in the 2022 NFL Draft through two rounds.
He will now take his talents to Washington as he now joins a pair of former Crimson Tide defensive linemen in Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen.
