Alabama cornerback Eli Ricks got arrested in Mississippi on Sunday for speeding, no insurance, and possession of marijuana.
It was his first offense and the first time he’s been in trouble.
Nick Saban has seen incidents like this happen during the offseason with Crimson Tide players. Whether it is someone in the wrong place at the wrong time or an unfortunate mishap, Coach Saban uses bad decisions as teachable moments for his athletes.
How should he handle the situation with Ricks?
On Monday, Stephen Smith of Touchdown Alabama Magazine kicked off the conversation via In My Own Words. Smith knows Saban will handle things internally, but he usually has players do community service tasks with police officers or speak to the youth about the importance of making good decisions in life. Ricks eyes an opportunity to be a starting cornerback for the Tide.
Will he be suspended for a game? It remains to be seen.
