John Metchie hopes to be ready for the Houston Texans by training camp.
He got selected in the second round of the NFL Draft.

Metchie had a good career at the University of Alabama, but he is looking forward to having success in the National Football League as a wide receiver. He suffered a knee injury (anterior cruciate ligament) last year in Alabama’s 2021 SEC Championship Game against Georgia. Metchie totaled a team-high 96 receptions for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns for the Crimson Tide.
He is six months removed from an ACL, but Metchie has been progressing in practice with the Texans.

According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, Metchie ran a route, made a cut, and caught a pass. He is not at 100 percent, but Lovie Smith and Houston are not rushing him. The Texans want Metchie to be at full strength, but seeing him work is a positive sign.
