Alabama fans have had mixed feelings about Pete Golding since he entered the Crimson Tide’s program in 2018.
He’s been a defensive coordinator for three seasons and has improved each year. Tide fans saw the greatness of Kirby Smart and Jeremy Pruitt as defensive play-callers and want the same from Golding. Smart and Pruitt had guys executing plays, sacking quarterbacks, stopping running backs, creating turnovers, and the defense leading the nation in all major categories.
Fans have not seen this from Golding, and some are growing concerned. Defenses in college football can still be elite in an offensive culture, especially after Georgia’s defense ran through everyone in 2021. The Bulldogs got hammered by Alabama in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game, but it defeated the Tide in the CFP National Championship matchup.
One Tide fan, Elijah from New Jersey, feels that people have been too judgmental of Coach Golding.
He made a call to In My Own Words with Stephen Smith of Touchdown Alabama Magazine this week to voice his opinion. Elijah said the blame is more so on the players not executing and taking ownership than Golding’s play-calling. Is he right about this?
If you want to challenge his thought, call In My Own Words every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6-7 p.m. CT on TDA’s YouTube channel.
