One of the attributes which originally intrigued Alabama in its hunt for Jahmyr Gibbs in the transfer portal was his speed.
Since joining the Crimson Tide, Gibbs has established himself as one of the more dynamic players on offense as he’s earned praise from Nick Saban and linebacker Henry To’oto’o who is matched up with the former Georgia Tech back often in practice.
“Jahmyr’s been doing great,” To’oto’o said on Aug. 5. “So fast, so elusive. Gets in and out of his cuts so quick. I’ve never guarded a back like him before.”
Gibbs was a multidimensional player as a member of the Yellow Jackets as he amassed 1,206 rushing yards, 768 receiving yards and 13 total touchdowns in his first two seasons at the college level.
Nowadays, especially in the NFL, teams are looking to add players with the exact skillset Gibbs provides. This has led to Gibbs studying tape on various running backs at the pro level as he tries to model his game after the modern running back.
On Friday, during media availability, Gibbs shared the three players he tries to model his game after.
“I would say my biggest strength is catching out of the backfield,” Gibbs said to local media on Friday. “That’s what the NFL likes. So I try to do my best to model my game after Christian McCaffery, Alvin Kamara, Aaron Jones– players like that who can catch out of the backfield.”
All three of the NFL backs Gibbs named have recorded over 3,000 rushing yards and 1,400 receiving yards in their careers to date making them the ideal players for Gibbs to learn from as he looks to make a sizeable impact on Alabama’s offense.
