Even though they aren’t teammates anymore, the respect and friendship between Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts are still strong.

This week the Dolphins and Eagles held joint practices ahead of its upcoming preseason game this weekend which gave the two former Alabama quarterbacks an opportunity to catch up.

Tagovailoa reminisced over the days in Tuscaloosa and what he learned from Hurts during their time together.

“Dude is a hard worker,” Tagovailoa said. “In the weight room, in the classroom and then on the field. Dude had to be the first in the weight room. He had to be the first on the field. You know sprints — he had to be first.

“It really tells you how he goes about his life. How he kinda sees things and how he looks at things. Obviously, he’s a competitor. He never wants to be last. So that should tell you a lot about him.”

Tagovailoa and Hurts famously went through a quarterback battle during the 2018-19 season where Tagovailoa would ultimately be named the starter while Hurts remained with the team. Hurts’ maturity and dedication received praise from fans, media and coaches for his perseverance.

That same season Hurts would enter the SEC Championship Game late in the fourth quarter against Georgia and lead a comeback win over the Bulldogs to help send Alabama to the College Football Playoff.

The two clearly still hold each other in high regard.
