Nick Saban complemented the play of Alabama’s freshman reserved offensive lineman, Tyler Booker, during Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference.
Booker was rated as a five-star recruit coming out of IMG Academy. He has earned playing time at guard in every game this season for the Crimson Tide. The Connecticut native has not allowed a sack, and he has yet to commit a penalty through eight games.
Saban feels the freshman gives the Crimson Tide a third starter at guard.
“We play him quite a bit,” Saban said. We kind of rotate three guards in the game because we think we have three starters at that position. He has made really good improvement, and we are really pleased with his progress.”
Other members of Alabama’s offensive line have been equally complimentary of Booker. The Tide’s starting left tackle, Tyler Steen, described him as mean and physical earlier this year.
“Book is another great player on the offensive line,” Steen said. “He is very physical, very mean, and very athletic. He brings that energy and juice from a young dude that it can get contagious. He is very aggressive.”
Booker and Alabama return to action next Saturday when they travel to Baton Rouge to take on LSU.
