The brotherhood for Alabama football in the National Football League is more than a jersey swap.

DeVonta Smith and John Metchie played together on Alabama’s incredible 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship team. Smith won the Heisman Trophy that year, but Metchie made him even better as a rising star himself. The two embraced each other during pregame on Thursday Night Football before the Philadelphia Eagles played against the Houston Texans.

Smith wore a shirt in pregame with Metchie’s name and image on it. Metchie, a native Canadian, was diagnosed with a curable form of leukemia before his rookie season. He is enduring chemotherapy treatments, but Metchie continues to support his team.

He got selected in the second round of this year’s NFL Draft. Alabama fans will be excited to watch him next year.
