Nick Saban praises Bryce Young’s football IQ

Bryce Young (#9) of Alabama throws a pass versus Cincinnati in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl

Bryce Young is projected to be one of the first quarterbacks off the board in the 2023 NFL Draft, and Nick Saban feels his ability to progress things before the snap is one of the many things that separates Young.

Young is the reigning Heisman-Trophy winner, and he is one of the most exciting college football players to watch. He garners a lot of attention when he turns into a magician and makes something out of nothing. However, Saban feels he is even more impactful before the snap.

“Bryce is one of the best guys that I’ve ever been around pro or college when it comes to understanding the defense and making the calls to get people picked up on the blitz,” Saban said Thursday on “Hey Coach.” “Whether we have to go solid, whether we have to go five,  whether we have to rope or lasso or whatever it is to get the protection right. Because he has as good of understanding of what the defense is trying to do as the coaches in terms of where they can blitz, where their numbers are, who’s covering who, and he helps the offensive line tremendously.”

The California native has thrown for 2,234 yards and 19 touchdowns in eight games this season.
